The loss of a loved one is among the most difficult trials a family can face. To ensure that every family in our community is cared for with dignity and in accordance with Islamic practice, Darul Islam refers all funeral arrangements to Curtis J. Holt’s Sons Funeral Home in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.

The funeral home handles all funeral arrangements for families referred by Darul Islam. Please call as soon as possible and inform the staff that the deceased is Muslim.

When a Death Occurs
| 1 | Notify the proper authorities. If the death occurs at home, call 911. If it occurs in a hospital or care facility, the staff will guide you through the required steps. |
| 2 | Contact the funeral home. Call Curtis J. Holt’s Sons Funeral Home at (401) 769-0133 as soon as possible and inform them that the deceased is Muslim. |
| 3 | Prepare the necessary information. The funeral home will need the deceased’s personal details for the death certificate, such as full legal name, date of birth and Social Security number. |
| 4 | Contact Darul Islam with any questions. Email darulislam.us@gmail.com for guidance at any stage of the process. |
The Islamic Funeral
| Prompt burial | Islamic practice encourages burying the deceased as soon as reasonably possible. |
| Ghusl | The ritual washing of the deceased, performed by members of the same gender. |
| Kafan | The shrouding of the deceased in simple white cloth. |
| Salat al-Janazah | The funeral prayer offered by the community for the forgiveness and mercy of the deceased. |
| Burial | The deceased is laid to rest facing the qiblah, the direction of the Ka‘bah in Makkah. |
